To be updated Spring 2020.
To prepare an 8-minute halftime show takes a lot of time. There is music to memorize, drill to march, choreography to learn - and then the whole thing has to be cleaned to look good! We put in two full weeks before school starts during what we call Band Camp.
Band Camp takes place at the high school. The first week is August 5 through August 9. Then we take a week off, and we have our second week of Band Camp from August 19 to August 23. We rehearse Monday through Friday each day from 8:00am until 4:00pm. Please note the time difference from previous years: after talking with students it was decided to start one hour earlier at 8am. This allows us to practice on Dorais Field in the morning before it gets too hot, and in the afternoon before we clear the field for football practice.
We take a hour-long break each day at 12:00pm for lunch and to get out of the sun. Many students pack a lunch and eat at school. Some students go home each day for lunch. Some students order pizza or Jimmy Johns. There is no school food service during the summer. If you need help figuring out your lunch, please talk to Mr. Renneke!
Band Camp is an expected part of being in the high school band, but it isn't a scary experience. We have a lot of fun, and it is a great way to get back into the swing of "school mode" while meeting lots of new people. On the first day of school you will already know 200 people!
