CFHS Band Fam!
This message is for all students in the CFHS band program, grades 9-12. Some of this information might not pertain to you but please read it completely so that you don't miss any important details that do impact your participation.
You should have gotten an email from the high school about tonight's virtual code meeting and subsequent team meetings.
To clarify, as in the past few years, there will be no 'official' marching band team meeting. Olson and I, however, will be available for a question and answer session for anyone who logs in. If you are involved in a fall sport or competitive activity, you should go to that virtual meeting instead of the band Q&A session. If you have a question but aren't able to attend, you can always email us!
Our summer rehearsal for Wednesday, July 29 at 6pm in the high school parking lot is still happening. See you there!
We had a meeting yesterday with Mr. Thompson (CFHS Activities Director) and the school and band program have been collaborating with the Chippewa County Health Department, the Western Wisconsin Marching Band Circuit, the Big Rivers Band Directors Association, and the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA). We have learned that at least initially at the start of the school year the band will not be performing at halftime of football games.
We are waiting to hear the results of a vote by the WSMA Board of Directors on what the State Marching Band Championships might look like. A few of the shows in our Western Wisconsin Circuit are either still happening, or have been postponed to October.
We will still have marching band. We will still have camp, learn music and drill, and we will still perform. It might not look the way we were expecting, but this band is nothing if not flexible - we have been stranded in the McDonald's parking lot too often to not be able to roll with the punches.
The current plan looks like this:
Does this leave you with questions? I bet it does! We are thinking of new questions every day and slowly creating answers. If you have fresh ideas we are interested in hearing them. If you have questions that come to mind right now, you can either email them to us or join us for the marching band Q&A session this evening - the link was sent to you from the high school activities office.
Looking forward to making this coming year a memorable one. New traditions will be forged and a new trail will be blazed. At the end of the day - we are going to have a LOT of fun!

Good morning CFHS Band Fam!
A reminder that this Wednesday (tomorrow) at 6pm in the high school parking lot is rehearsal for battery. Students will be sizing harnesses and picking up equipment. Please wear a mask. If you are unable to wear a mask, let one of the directors know and we will arrange a different time for you to pick up your equipment.
Be sure to check out the band website blog for a few recent posts about the schedule, drum majoring, and more.

As plans and recommendations change, we will adapt to ensure that we are rehearsing and performing safely.
Hello CFHS Band family!
Welcome to high school band! We are glad to have you continuing your musical journey with the incredible tradition of music at Chippewa Falls High School.
There are many questions about what this fall might look like - for now in the band program we are preparing for 'business as usual'. We wanted to share a few bits of information with you now, and then we will have updates later as more decisions are made and we know more about what we are working with.
First, if you haven't found your way over to the website yet, you should visit www.cfhsbands.org. This is a great resource with lots of information for band families.
Be sure to check out the calendar and look at the dates for band camp in August - while this isn't required of freshmen and students in the Varsity Band, you are more than welcome to join us! We'd love to see you and it is a great way to ease back into the swing of things in a fun and relaxed setting.
Speaking of band camp - we have had a few freshmen students inquire about joining the competitive Marching Cardinals. We are glad that you are excited! Because of the logistics that go into this, we would need around ten freshmen students interested in joining the competitive marching band to be able to accommodate something like this. If this describes you, please email Mr. Renneke right away (firstname.lastname@example.org) - we need to hear from you by Monday, July 6 - and let him know you are interested.
Otherwise, we hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer and that you get a chance to play your instrument now and then! In the meantime, if you have any questions about high school in general or band specifically, please know that you are now the newest members of the CFHS Band Family, and we are here to help out in anyway that we can. I know that the future is a little murky with uncertainty right now, but we will figure it out as we go - together!
If we can be of service in any way, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Students interested in auditioning for a Drum Major position for next season should be prepared to make a video of themselves conducting a short one-minute section of the 2020 opener. You can find the audio file that you will be conducting along with here.
The video should show all of your arms and face and most of your body. You only will be recording yourself conducting to a one-minute excerpt - while we would suggest either the beginning or the end, you can pick your favorite one-minute chunk.
Please share your finished video file with BOTH Mr. Renneke (email@example.com) and Mr. Olson (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Given the unique nature of our previous spring semester, the marching staff will be reviewing the submitted recordings and selecting drum majors from the pool of applicants.
If you have any questions, please let us know!
