We have setup a few different Google Meets this week with the different sections to talk about band, summer rehearsals, the fall season, and more. If you have questions or ideas, this is a great time to share them. We hope to see you at your Google Meet!
If you aren't able to meet with your section, you can certainly jump in at a different time that works for you - but it would be best if you were with you section.
Percussionists, remember your audition videos are due on Friday!
This is the second year that the Memorial Day parade and ceremony has been cancelled, either due to weather or a global pandemic. The Chippewa Falls band directors got together to record Brian Sadler's brass quintet arrangement of "America the Beautiful". If you haven't heard it yet, take a moment today to listen. Ignore the fracked French horn note and spend time remembering in gratitude all those who have died in service to their country.
School year 2020-2021 drum line auditions for students in grades 10-12 will be held via video. Students should record themselves playing the appropriate excerpt for their audition, and then email or share the video to Ren. Videos are due May 29. If you haven't also already shared your top 3 choices, please include those in your email.
Four mallet: Closer, marimba 1, measures 5-12
Two mallet: Closer, vibe 2, measures 50-58 beat 1
Opener (Part 1) - Note there are two segments to record!
Measures 42-45 with release at 46

If you are interested in playing any of the front ensemble instruments (mallets 2, rack, aux percu, etc) you should record the TWO MALLET segment. If you are interested in playing Marimba 1 or Vibes 1, you should record the FOUR MALLET segment.
If you are interested in playing any of the battery instruments (snare, tenor, bass drum, cymbal line) you should record the battery segment.
Hello CFHS Band Fam!
Sorry that I have been a little MIA this year - Coffee with Ren will return! I've been working on a few end-of-the-year things to help get me out of this existential funk, and so this email will have a lot of short, easy things you need to complete. Please read the whole thing!
First, you need to nominate someone for the Outstanding Member Award. Each ensemble gives this award to one person from within your ensemble, and it is voted on by the students.
Second, you need to submit your letter points! Rather than turning in a form this year, you will be entering your letter points on this Google form. To learn more about what a band letter is, check out the website and under "Students" click on "Lettering". You can view the updated 2019-2020 Band Letter form, and if you have any questions please let Ren know!
This one is for SENIORS: Seniors, I need a digital copy of your senior picture and a baby picture! You can either email it to me, or add to Google Drive and share with me. Please take care of this sooner rather than later, or you won't be in the slideshow!
Finally, this is for ALL STUDENTS: if you have any pictures from anything that happened in band this year, please send them to me! I'm putting together a slideshow and need your help! Pictures from the band room, bus rides, marching band shows, football games, concerts, pep band, you name it! Please make sure it is appropriate for school and to be shared with our community. If you have any pictures of you from MIDDLE SCHOOL music stuff, I'd love to include that as well!
I hope you are hanging in there. I know that I have good days and bad. The bad days pass (with a little screaming at the world) and that just makes the good days all the better. If you are in a funk, go check out John Krasinski's graduation episode of "Some Good News". If that doesn't work, watch this music video my college roommates made.
Love you all.
