UWEC Band Concert on Thursday

4/23/2018

We are putting together a group of students to check out the UW-Eau Claire band concert on Thursday.

The initial plan is to meet at Burracho's on Water Street at 6pm for dinner - you get yourself there and pay for your dinner. At 7pm we will walk over to the Haas Fine Arts building for the concert which starts at 7:30pm. Ren will buy your concert ticket for you.

The concert is pretty lengthy but features some AMAZING music and will be probably around 2+ hours long.

The concert features music by composers we've recently played such as Michael Colgrass (Old Churches) and David Maslanka (Mother Earth Fanfare, Rollo Takes A Walk, Symphony No 8 - marching band).

IC Message 4/17/18

4/17/2018

CFHS Band Fam:

Because of yesterday's snow we have rescheduled the Butter Braid delivery to NEXT WEEK Monday, from 3:45pm-4:15pm.

They arrive frozen, so please make plans to pick them up and bring them home - don't have them sitting out in the gym during baseball practice, etc.

S/E Festival Reminders

4/4/2018

2018 WSMA SOLO & ENSEMBLE DISTRICT FESTIVAL
Memorial High School | 2225 Keith Street, Eau Claire, WI 54701

  • Arrive early to get a good warm-up. There is warm-up space provided (follow the signs) but there are usually not chairs, stands, or percussion equipment.
  • Some sites run ahead, some run behind. You cannot be forced to perform before your scheduled time, but you certainly may if the room is ahead (which is rare).
  • Dress professionally - represent yourself and our school well. Be kind and courteous to the volunteers and room monitors. They aren’t in charge of anything and aren’t to blame for anything, either!
  • This is a competitive performance! Be prepared.
  • Scores are posted sporadically - you can wait and see your result, or Ren can text you if you ask.
  • There are concessions available if you will be at the Festival a long time.
  • Most percussion instruments are provided. Ask Ren if you need something unusual.

INTRODUCTION
  • Say your full name and school, but not your grade.
  • Say the title of your piece and the composer’s name. Ask Ren if you need help with pronunciation.
  • Introduce your accompanist if you have one.
    Good: This is my accom-puh-nist, Mr/Ms _______.
Good: I am being accompanied by Mr/Ms _______.
Bad: Here is my accom-puh-nee-ist, Ren.

LAST MINUTE REMINDERS
  • Get a full night of sleep, and drink a lot of water!
  • Make sure you bring:
    • Your instrument, Your sticks/mallets
    • Your music
    • An original copy of the music for the judge
    • Extra reeds, valve oil
  • Have fun! If you have prepared thoroughly and consistently you will have a great performance.
  • It isn’t about the score, it is about the feedback. Listen to the adjudicator and learn something new!
