Hello CFHS Band Family!
What a weekend - thank you to everyone who made the Big Trip a big success!
A few quick housekeeping items as we wrap up our marching band unit:
We will be receiving the video from Youth in Music later this week and will share it with you. When the photos from Whitewater are available, we will also let you know about how to order those.
Whew! Let me know if you have any questions.
Hello CFHS Band Family:
A few people have been asking for information about the Music Department Performance Tour this February to New Orleans.
A collection of resources has been assembled at www.chihimusictrip.com for you to look over. All of the information on the webpage has been discussed in class and/or passed out to students - so parents, it might be a good time to ask your student if they have this information! :)
The 'best' resource is the tri-fold brochure that we handed out to students at the beginning of the year. It contains trip costs, payment dates, and more.
Feel free to ask questions. The first deposit of $200 is due on Monday, October 8, along with the signed permission slip and trip agreement form. You can download these documents from the above website, or pick up hard copies on one of the trip bulletin boards in the band room. They were also handed out in class.
Good morning CFHS Band Family!
Just another of a dozen reminders - the Club's Choice fundraiser is being delivered today! It can be picked up after school between 3:45pm and 4:15pm.
The items arrive frozen which is why it is important they get picked up in that time frame. We aren't able to store anything here after 4:15pm.
Students can stop down at the end of the day, grab the order, and take the bus home - that is perfectly fine. Or, someone can swing by between 3:45 and 4:15pm and pick it up. The orders will be in the auditorium, right across the hall from the band room.
Good evening CFHS Band Family:
We are in the final two weeks of our marching band season - it is amazing how much the show has come together, the students have improved, and the time has flown by!
A nearly-officially-complete itinerary for October 13-14 has been posted on the website.
It is going to be an amazing weekend! We do need some parent help to make sure things run smoothly and keep us moving on schedule.
(First, thank you to the parents who have already volunteered as chaperones and on-field help for these final few performances!)
We are looking for 2 more parents who would be willing to drive down to Sun Prairie and help set-up and prepare dinner. The band will be coming from Minneapolis and when we arrive in Sun Prairie we will have dinner ready to go. There are 4 people already driving directly to Sun Prairie, so you would have plenty of hands to make light work. Dinner is hot dogs, fruit, chips... easy stuff.
If you would be willing to help, please let me know this week so we can plan accordingly!
Thanks for considering. This season has been so special already - I can't wait to see what the next two weeks bring!
Hello Parent Volunteers,
Our Music Along the Chippewa Home Show event is this Saturday! Thank you so much to the MANY people that have stepped forward to donate their time and other items needed to make this day a success for our music department! We have a FEW key spots that need to be filled by Saturday:
MOST IMPORTANT!!! We need 5 more people for the later concessions slot, beginning at 7:30. Please, Orchestra and Choir parents, step up to fill this spot. This is the time that the Marching Cardinals actually perform, so band parents would like to be watching their students.
We need 2 driveway gatekeepers to manage the gate as bands are getting ready to enter the stadium area.
We still need 2 kitchen helpers from 6-10.
We need one more pie tent attendant for the second time slot
When you arrive for your shift or to bring your items, please check in at the volunteer tent near the concession stand. Food items can be checked in at the volunteer stand as well. If your donated item/food is for the hospitality room, you can then drop it off in the cafeteria area inside the school. The volunteer check in people will direct you. Again thank you all so much. We would not be able to host this successful and amazing event without your help!

Hello CFHS Band Fam!
1. Link to judge's tapes from Cumberland
2. Link to Baldwin-Woodville itinerary. Free ice cream!
3. Link to listen to the closer.
3a.Link to the opening bell turn video.
4. Pay attention to rehearsal schedule for Saturday.
5. You will only be "on duty" for a portion of the AM; the other time would be good for a sectional, lunch together, etc.
6. Mattress sale is on October 20 - you can earn CASH for referrals - more information on Friday!!!
7. You can make a video recording of you playing the opener/ballad segments for the music check. That might be easier for you, and it is an option. Please have it done by Friady, 9/21.
Attention Chippewa Music Parents:
Thank you to those AMAZING parents who have already signed up to work and to donate food and other items for our Music Along the Chippewa Band Home Show. October 6 is just around the corner, so please consider signing up if you have not already. There are a number of needs yet to be filled, and we especially need workers for the later concessions slots and to work in the hospitality room. We are encouraging choir and orchestra parents to look at working all of these slots so that band parents can watch their kids on the field. Look at your schedule and call a friend! This is a fun way to support all of the outstanding performing groups at Chi Hi, so let’s get this done!
Looking ahead, Music Parents, please mark your calendars for October 20! What is October 20? It is the famous mattress sale coming to our own Chi-Hi. If you or anyone you know may be looking for a mattress, this is your chance to buy a mattress and support your favorite music program at the same time. More information on this to follow on another day.

CFHS Band Family:
There are many students with outstanding paperwork that needs to be turned in as soon as possible. Please be sure that you have taken care of the following items before Saturday
morning. If you don't know if you have turned in your pink and green paperwork, check the music hallway for a list of student IDs with missing forms.
1. Make sure you registered for CFHS activities and paid your activity fee:
2. Complete and return the PINK travel permission slip/medical form. Extra copies are on the band office door or can be printed at home from the website.
3. Complete and return the GREEN marching band fee. The money can be returned at your convenience, but we at least need the form! Extra copies are on the band office door or
can be printed at home from the website.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for promptly returning these completed forms.
If you are still needing to get a pair of all black shoes for marching band performances, the shoes we previously recommended on Amazon have gone up in price. Here are two more options for families still needing black shoes.
Drillmasters are nice because they have a rolled-heel built in which helps with technique.
I haven't personally worn these, but they are a good price.
Hello CFHS Band Family!
I'm terribly sorry for the late notice, but there will be an informational meeting for parents and anyone interested in being a chaperone for the 2019 performance tour to New Orleans on Monday, September 10 at 6:00pm in the CFHS Choir Room.
If you aren't able to make the meeting, it will be recorded and the video shared with you afterwards.
You are not required to attend the meeting if you are interested in being a chaperone; attendance does not increase your 'chances' of being selected to chaperone. It is an opportunity to learn more about our upcoming performance tour, and ask any questions that may come up.
Every other year the CFHS Music Department embarks on an optional performance tour to a major American city, traveling with over 300 students from the bands, choirs, and orchestras. While on the trip, students participate in sight-seeing and visiting major historical landmarks of American history, as well as performing for and working with nationally acclaimed music educators from around the nation.
The 2019 performance tour takes place on February 13-18.
This blog is intended to serve as a collection of announcements and information for current students and their families.
